Clerkenwell – From Squares to Slums

Clerkenwell was built as fine suburb with its grand squares.

It quickly fell out of favour and within a hundred years it was home to some of the worst slums in the country.

On this walk we see the ancient well that gives the area its name, some of the great social housing projects and visit one of London’s few remaining 12th century structures.

Meet by the benches outside Angel tube station.
